Save the Six Bells: news roundup!

Take a look at the picture above. Our best guess is that that was taken around the time of the Queen's coronation in the 1950s. What do you think?

It's been a solemn time lately, which is why we took the decision to cancel our walk to the Lighthouse Pub. We're still working hard to gain publicity and hopeful that Wales Online will be running a story on our campaign this weekend. We need as many people as possible to join our coffee morning on Sunday for a potential photo session with reporters - this is our chance to raise our profile even more. Please do come and join us: see below for details!

Did you know the Six Bells was once a listed building? It lost it's listed status at some point following renovations, but still retains many of the features that make it a historic building. The 13ft lintel beamed fireplace and stone steps inset into the fireplace hint at the 400 year past of this building.

That's why we have the support of the Architectural Heritage Fund and have received a grant for a survey of the building to get a full understanding of the costs that lie ahead. We're hoping to meet with the owners very soon to arrange access and agree a way forward.

Do you have any photos of the Bells? Please do raid your archives and send them to us at savethesixbells@hotmail.com or message us on facebook at the link below.

Coffee Morning - change of date!

Our next coffee morning will be:

Sunday 25th of September, 10-12 at Peterstone village hall

These Coffee mornings have been so popular for bringing together members of the local community. It's a chance to eat cake and share thoughts about the Save the Six Bells campaign. We're a friendly bunch so please do come along and say hello! We've changed the day to Sunday following a mix up over bookings, but hope you can still make it.

With your generosity in the last few months our coffee mornings have raised almost £400, which is a real help to getting us started. Look out for our new #savethesixbells banner coming to a roadside in Peterstone soon!

Pushing forwards

  • We're continuing to work with a Plunkett funded business advisor to develop our business case and are working hard to assess the viability of our plans for each element of the pub, farm shop and information centre that we're proposing.
  • Our registration as Peterstone Wentlooge Community Benefit Society Limited is pending with the Financial Conduct Authority. Thanks to Cwmpas and Co-op UK with their help and funding for this. This means we can set up our own bank account and act as a society run entirely for the benefit of the community.
  • We're looking forward to starting work with our 'Digital Hero' this month. Awarded to us by the Heritage Trust, we're hoping they will be able to help with our social media and possibly even helping to develop a website to improve our online presence.

We can't do this without you!

Everyone can support this campaign by sharing our newsletter, telling your friends and following & sharing our Facebook page. There are also some specific things we need people to help with:
  • Support with organising our monthly coffee mornings and other fundraiser events.
  • Anyone skilled in fundraising/campaign planning and/or finance
  • Someone to help build us a website
  • People with business skills like writing business plans and/or running shops/pubs.
  • Help with marketing/branding
If you think you could help, drop us an email at: Savethesixbells@hotmail.com, or message us on Facebook. All we ask is the time you're able to give.
