Save the Six Bells: news roundup!

Wouldn't it be amazing to bring the Six Bells, this incredible 16th Century building, back as a thriving pub, a farmshop and wildlife information centre?! We've got big plans, but we need a big audience....

So hear comes our first big publicity move... On 17th September, we'll be walking from the Six Bells, to our nearest pub, the Lighthouse Inn, 3 miles along the Wales Coast Path. We'll turn up in time to support their music festival which runs from 12pm to 10pm.

It's a sad time for our local pubs. The Inn at the Elm has gone. The Rompney Castle - gone. The Willows, closing. And now sadly, the Lighthouse Inn is also at risk of closure.

And that's it. We'd have no more pubs on the Wentlooge Levels. Fewer and fewer pubs in the local area. No public amenity to enjoy the local environment, nothing to bring our communities together. But you can help to change this: be part of the move to support the Lighthouse Inn and help us to set the Six Bells up as a pub run by the community, for the community.

Join us on September 17th at 12pm sharp opposite the Six Bells. Take a group photo opportunity outside the Bells and enjoy a 3 mile coastal walk with us at 12.15 finishing outside the Lighthouse Inn. Then you're free to enjoy the festival for as long as you like!

PS, if you can't join the walk, please come for the photos or welcome our arrival outside the Lighthouse Inn at approximately 1.30, all support is welcome!

Coffee Morning

OK, ok, so it's holiday season, and everyone is away, so who wants to join us for our next coffee morning on Saturday 27th August 10-12 at Peterstone Village Hall?

Probably the people who've seen the cakes from last months' event of course! We have some great bakers, great company and a fantastic cause, so please come along and hear more about our project. It's always great to see new faces!

Last month we had more than 40 people attend, with some travelling as far afield as Port Talbot and Portsmonth to show us what the pub means to them first hand. Thank you all so much for your efforts!

Other Updates

  • We are thrilled to have been awarded a 'Digital Hero' by the Heritage Trust Network. This means someone tech savvi will be working with us on a project to improve our social media impact. We have more than 700 fantastic Facebook followers, but want to extend our reach and give everyone the chance to support The Six Bells campaign.
  • We're continuing to work with a Plunkett funded business advisor to develop our business case. We've got our fingers crossed that we're successful in our bid to the Architectural Heritage Fund to support a viability study to determine the cost to buy, renovate and realise the building's potential. We know we have great ideas, but we need a solid business case to prove that this venture can work.
  • We are working with Cwmpas and Co-op UK to  register as a Community Benefit Society (CBS) with the Financial Conduct Authority. This means we can act as a business operating entirely for the benefit of the community. Fingers crossed this will be in place by September.

Call for volunteers
