This National Volunteers’ Week, we’re raising a glass (and a cake!) to the amazing people at the heart of Save the Six Bells.
Because this year’s theme couldn’t be more true:
Volunteers make it happen.
Powered by People – In Peterstone and Across the UK
Across the UK, Community Benefit Societies are proof of what’s possible when people come together to protect and improve the places they love. From pubs to post offices, shops to green spaces; there is one constant behind every success:
Volunteers.
These campaigns often take years. They weather legal hurdles, funding setbacks, and moments of doubt. We know this journey well - our team has been working to save The Six Bells for over three years. Through complex processes, creative fundraising, and relentless community engagement……. We are still here. Still fighting.
Kindness, Cake, and Commitment
Every share we’ve sold. Every fundraising event. Every Repair Café, every cake stall, every grant application.
Every step forward has been made possible by volunteers.
First up, our beloved bakers:
Bernie Cook, Linda Garrard, and Christina Gunstone, your cake (and care) lift our spirits and fill our bellies. You’ve made every event that much sweeter.
The Steering Group: Our Compass
Our core team including Amanda, Holly, Wayne, Rhoswen, Helen, Ruth, Sarah, and Leon, they are absolutely the engine behind this campaign. Their commitment, creativity, and calm keep this campaign moving forward. They are our compass.
Fixers, Thinkers, and Doers
Our Repair Café team Alberto, Andrew, Rachel, Steve, and sometimes Leon (when allowed) bring tools, skills, and serious dedication. More than that, they bring connection and confidence to our community.
New Faces and Helping Hands
A big Peterstone welcome to Barb Smith - sleeves already rolled up!
And heartfelt thanks to Lee, Laura, Tim, Gina, and Nerys - always ready to help, always appreciated.
Creativity and Communication
Ioan from Bluebird Photography, just 14, brought a fresh, creative eye to our digital story.
And Christie from the Celtic Collection has helped shape our digital voice, helping us reach further and inspire more people.
This Campaign Runs on Heart
We’re not powered by big budgets or professional teams.
We’re powered by care, commitment, and community.
We’re not just trying to save a pub. We’re working to build a future; a space where people gather, share, and belong.
Like many other Community Benefit Societies across the country, we’ve learned that it’s volunteers who breathe life into a mission. Who keep it going until it becomes reality.
So, from all of us at Save the Six Bells:
Thank you. Diolch yn fawr.
You really do make it happen.
